The Community Alliance for Upper Fourteenth Street (CAUFS), in partnership with Community Foodworks (CFW), will unveil the Uptown Farmers Market on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at the intersection of 14th and Kennedy Streets, and Colorado Avenue. The market will operate each Saturday from 9am to 1pm from through November 23, 2019.

“For the past four years, our neighborhood farmers market has served as a vibrant gathering place for nearby residents,” said Brett West, Co-Chair of CAUFS. “As our neighborhood continues to thrive and diversify, so too was the need to identify a market leader to meet the changing needs of our community. With 15 markets throughout the DC Metro Area, Community Foodworks has a proven record of success in delivering markets that fit the unique needs of the variety of neighborhoods it serves.”

“Community Foodworks is excited to step into the role of manager for the Uptown Farmers Market. Our organization is primely positioned to support the existing farmers, vendors, and customers, and bring in new vendors and programming for the community. Increasing access and equity in food is paramount for our team, and we feel that the market and neighborhood are a perfect fit for our programs and culture,” says Hugo Mogollon, CFW’s Executive Director.

The mission of Community Foodworks is to create market opportunities for local farmers and food producers in the Mid-Atlantic, while increasing access to good, healthy, local food. In addition to working with a number of the market vendors that have operated at 14th and Kennedy Streets in prior years, new vendors and pop-ups will be introduced. “We look forward to working with returning vendors to keep your favorite products available each Saturday morning. One new farm we’re especially excited to announce is Earth Spring Farm from Carlisle, PA, bringing to market fresh produce, flowers, and, hopefully in the fall, mushrooms,” says Nick Stavely, CFW’s General Operations Manager. The Uptown Farmers Market will again be a designated DPW composting program drop-off point.

The Uptown Farmers Market will accept EBT / SNAP and WIC and Senior farmers market benefits, and Community Foodworks will offer dollar-for-dollar SNAP matching through DC Fresh Match, and WIC and Senior matching through CFW’s Bonus Bucks program. “These programs empower participants by increasing their purchasing power: with more money in their pockets, customers using benefits at market can increase their fruit and vegetable consumption, helping the local community stay healthy” explains Mr. Mogollon.

CFW will program music and other community activities each week, with a Kid’s Corner coming by the summer. For sponsorship opportunities, please contact CFW at markets@cfwdc.org.
