New Uptown Main Street business, Cheesemonster Studio, will open its doors at 713 Kennedy Street NW next Thursday, April 11th.  Cheesemonster was established two years ago as a mobile catering company by cheesemonger Alice Bergen Phillips. Their brick and mortar location is a partnership between Bergen Phillips and beverage veterans Hilarey and Brian Leonard of Lost & Found and Free State bars.

The cozy space includes a full service catering prep kitchen for their signature artisan cheese boards, cafe seating for 20 for cheese and charcuterie boards as well as wine and beer service Thursday-Saturday evenings 4-10 PM, and space for private events and classes.

All of their products are carefully sourced from producers with whom Bergen Phillips has created lasting relationships over the years, and will feature local options whenever possible.  The Leonards will be adding a robust seasonal beverage program with by the glass and bottle, as well as craft beer and non-alcoholic options.

The Studio is also a venue for local cheesemongers and beverage professionals to gather and dive into aspects of the industry they feel passionately about sharing with customers and each other.

Being a part of the neighborhood community is very important to the owners.  Creating a place for neighbors to enjoy exceptional food and drinks with their friends and family is of the utmost importance.  The team looks forward to being able to contribute in a positive way to the community and is already an active member of Uptown Main Street.  They participated in Taste of Uptown in the fall and look forward to supporting this year’s Kennedy Street Festival.

Cheesemonster Studio is available for off site catering, in-studio private events, wine, beer and cheese classes on or off site, and will also curate classes open to the public.  For more information please visit:  www.cheesemonsterstudio.com or email info@cheesemonsterstudio.com.

The owners are hosting a “soft opening” on Friday, April 5th and Saturday, April 6th from 4-10 PM.  After they open on the 11th, their regular cafe hours will be 4-10 PM Thursday through Saturday. Catering and private events can be arranged by emailing the address above.

The staff, board, and volunteers of Uptown Main Street could not be more excited to welcome Cheesemonster Studio to our corridor.  We’re pleased to announce that this business received a Great Streets Grant, due in large part to the support of local community leaders, from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development to build out this space and bring additional jobs and services to the larger Petworth community.
