Uptown Main Street to Collect Donations for Residents Displaced by August 18 Fire on Kennedy Street

On Sunday, August 18, a fire broke out at 708 Kennedy Street, NW, killing two, including a nine year old boy. After an initial investigation, DC officials confirm this was an illegal rental property. Uptown Main Street staff and Board of Directors are disheartened by this tragedy and will support efforts to help the victims in their recovery.

In order to assist those displaced by the blaze, Uptown Main Street will accept online donations on their behalf. Donations will be accepted until September 23 and will be directly distributed to the residents. Donors must list ‘Kennedy Street Fire’ in the notes to ensure the donations are allocated correctly. Any donations we are unable to distribute or those collected past the September 23 deadline will be donated to The American Red Cross’ fund for Disaster Relief.

Uptown Main Street is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization.  Any contribution is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
